Drug-Free Blood Drives
Contact your local Red Cross and work with them to organize a “drug-free” blood drive. The Red Cross will be happy to help you organize a blood drive that promotes a drug-free lifestyle, because only people who are not on drugs can give blood. Establish a time and location and arrange to print handouts and posters (or obtain them from the Red Cross) to promote your drive far and wide. In most states and countries, you must be at least a certain age and weigh a certain amount to give blood, but anyone can help the Red Cross by signing people up to give blood.
Be sure the promotion being distributed states that this is a “Drug-Free Blood Drive
sponsored by Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life” (or whatever your group name is). Get
these promotional items distributed through stores, businesses, schools, churches and
youth groups in the immediate area.
Set up a Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life table (with appropriate banner) at the
location and hold a very successful drive with the Red Cross. Have certificates printed
to acknowledge your drug-free blood donors and even appoint them honorary
members of your group. Afterwards, send thank you letters to the Red Cross officials
who helped.
