On a crisp Saturday in Sydney’s upscale Kirribilli neighborhood, thousands browsed the bustling rows of vintage clothing and artisan goods at the Kirribilli Markets. But one stall stopped people in their tracks—not for a bargain, but for a cause.

Standing out as the brightest and boldest tent was the Foundation for a Drug-Free World’s mobile exhibit. Volunteers welcomed curious passersby with free educational booklets and interactive displays from the Truth About Drugs program.

“Education is what we need.”

More than 3,000 people visited the market that day, stopping by to ask questions and learn. Members of the market staff came by, asked about drugs, and toured the displays. They praised the initiative and community service.

Education is more urgent than ever. According to Australia’s National Drug Strategy Household Survey, nearly 4 million Australians used illicit drugs in the past year.

Volunteers invited everyone to take a stand for a brighter future by signing the Drug-Free World pledge to live healthy, strong and drug-free.

As the exhibit was closing, another visitor approached to learn more. He explained that one of his friends had died from drug abuse and, though saddened, thanked the volunteers for their work. “This is the right thing to do,” he said. “Education is what we need.”

With each booklet handed out and each pledge signed, Sydney’s marketgoers were reminded that education can cut through the noise and lead the way to a drug-free life.
