The US-Mexico border region of El Paso, Las Cruces benefits from over $54 billion in legal trade annually but with it has also come a violent drug trade that has caused hundreds of deaths. Recently Texas Police and Teen Explorers teamed up with Foundation for a Drug-Free World Ambassador Rick Henley at the 23rd KLAQ Memorial Weekend Concerts and Balloon Festival to bring the “Truth About Drugs” education booklets to its thousands of participants.

The “Truth About Drugs” is a series of booklets provided by the Foundation for a Drug-Free World, a non-profit organization that focuses on drug education. During the 3 days of perfect weather there were barbeques, waterslides, rock concerts and dancing, all interspersed with drug education lectures, youth and adults pledging to be drug-free and new volunteers signing up to help. Even DJ Danny Mazanares got in on the act with a “say no to drugs, say yes to life” chant that rocked the house at the Sun City Sizzle dance.
“We had a great time and the response was fantastic,” said Henley. “One thing is certain, people want and need knowledge about what drugs are and do and that’s why the ‘Truth About Drugs’ is such a hit. I see it everywhere I go.”
